Well we’ve got some good news and some bad news. And then some more good news.

Megaman fans have been starved of their favorite franchise for quite a few years now. There’s been a number of spiritual successors, indie knockoffs, and games of the sort, but nothing official from Capcom themselves. We thought all was lost. That is, until today, when Capcom finally announced the long-awaited Megaman 11.

The internet was immediately ablaze with hype.

Megaman and Megaman X collections are going to be hitting every major platform, including the Switch, as is Megaman 11. It’s finally happening. A return to the classic Megaman form, with a new art style and everything. Not just some cheap 8-bit shit. No one could believe it was really happening. And, well, it wasn’t. As it turns out, the trailer was supposed to be a joke.

“We are so sorry for pulling such a crude, heartless prank on the fans like that.” A Capcom rep spoke to us after the live stream. “It was just a prank, we really didn’t mean to hurt you guys. It was supposed to be for Keiji Inafune. We got him to work on this trailer with us, we made him do all this work. But when the trailer was scheduled to be played we were supposed to swap his Megaman 11 trailer with the Mighty No. 9 trailer. We were all gonna throw pennies at him and laugh, live during the stream. He’s such a prick. Remember how he stole your Kickstarter money? We were just getting even. So we’re cool, right guys?”

Inafune is still in his room awaiting the feedback from the trailer we were never supposed to see.

Like an anime fan on prom night

But that’s not the end of that. After seeing just how excited everyone has been so far about this, Capcom has decided that they will, actually, pursue making a new Megaman game. They just need to find a way to get rid of Inafune now that their prank has gone awry.

While it won’t be Megaman 11 like we were initially promised, we will still be getting a Megaman game in late 2018. That’s right. The long-awaited Megaman Star Force 4 will be launching exclusively on iOS and Android. If you thought Pokemon GO was cool, just wait until we’re using augmented reality to have alien virus battles in real life.

Mighty No. 9-2 is also still in development, for some reason, and is expected to launch sometime exclusively for Wii U in 2020.
